Funding available for projects to help community

Date published: 03 July 2014

Hopwood Hall College, in association with the Skills Funding Agency, is seeking innovative projects to fund in Rochdale that will create learning opportunities and help local unemployed adults into employment.

The Neighbourhood Learning in Deprived Communities (NLDC) fund, which is managed by Hopwood Hall College, has been supporting local voluntary and community sector organisations since 2009. It is part of a wider plan, (called the National Strategy for Neighbourhood Renewal) launched by the government in 2001, to reduce worklessness and crime in the poorest neighbourhoods in the country, and to improve their health, housing and physical environment.

Jonathan Gibson, Contracts Officer, Community Learning, at Hopwood Hall College said: “The NLDC fund enables local community groups and volunteer organisations to help local people. We’ve seen some amazing projects come to life over the years, and the feedback we’ve had from the people who have attended the projects as a result has made it all worthwhile. Now it’s time to select this year’s projects for funding. We would like to hear from any organisation that feels they meet the criteria.”

To qualify for funding, projects must be focused in the Rochdale area, involve and engage with local people, deliver or facilitate learning and help participants plan and move on to further learning, community activity or paid work in the future.

The closing date for applications is 12 noon on 9 July.
