Dell Road to be repaired by local volunteers

Date published: 17 July 2014

Repair work will begin on potholes on Dell Road, Healey Dell on Saturday 19 July.

Healey Dell Heritage Centre and Aunt Mary’s Day Nursery have been raising money and contributing their own funds to have the pot holes on Dell Road (starting at Shawclough/Healey Hotel end) filled with concrete.

However, a local citizen contacted the police to inform them of the plans to ‘illegally dig up’ Dell Road.

Janice Percy, from Healey Dell Heritage Centre, said: “The section of the road we are repairing is privately owned. It is not owned by the Council and we are not digging the road up, we are filling in the potholes.

“The road has been in a poor state for a long time, and no-one has taken responsibility for it. It is such a lovely area and people can be deterred by the road which is a shame.

“We have a lot of walkers, cyclists and horse riders down the road and it can be quite dangerous for them. When it is raining, you can’t see the potholes clearly.”

Despite the complaint, work will go ahead this weekend.

The road into the Dell from Shawclough will be temporarily inaccessible whilst work takes place. Anyone wishing to enter the Dell during repairs should do so via Whitworth Road.

“We would love to extend the work across to the areas surrounding the Healey Mills units, but unfortunately we don’t have the funds at this moment in time,” added Janice.

“Any volunteers and contributions are welcome to help with our DIY project.”
