Rochdale mid table in income tax league

Date published: 22 July 2014

People who live in the Borough of Rochdale pay an average of £3,300 per year in income tax. That puts Rochdale just below mid table at 276 out of 401 regions in a table compiled by accountancy firm UHY Hacker Young.

Rochdale is below neighbouring Bury, which is placed 235th in the table with Bury residents paying an average of £3,560, but well above Oldham, which is placed 322nd and whose residents pay an average of £3,080.

Rochdale is nowhere near the bottom of the table, which is propped up Blackpool - those who live in the popular seaside resort pay the least income tax out of all the 401 regions at £2,290 a year.

Taxpayers in Elmbridge, Surrey, pay the most at £16,600 a year - not that far short in tax as the average £22,500 salary of Rochdale residents. The area is nicknamed the ‘Beverly Hills’ of Britain and has several famous residents, including musician Elton John and 2013 Wimbledon champion Andy Murray.
