Rochdale Online’s Amy Westlake picks up her Masters degree

Date published: 25 July 2014

Rochdale Online journalist, Amy Westlake, attended her graduation ceremony yesterday (Thursday 24 July) having gained a Masters Degree in Multimedia Journalism.

Amy graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University with a Merit grade. She had previously studied BA (Hons) Creative Studies at Bangor University.

“I focused on journalism within my BA degree which gave me a push in the right direction. I also studied aspects of film and media, which I am very interested in. I graduated in 2012 with a 2:1,” Amy said.

As a part of her degree, Amy was required to undertake two weeks work experience in the industry.

“I did my work experience at Rochdale Online, and if it wasn’t for that then I probably wouldn’t be working here today.

“My Masters course was really interesting and I learnt a lot of information and skills that I still use today.”

When speaking about her life after her degree, Amy said: “I always knew I wanted to work in journalism, so it’s brilliant to be actually doing it. I really enjoy what I do right now and my work at Rochdale Online is so varied.

“I go to council meetings, cover local events, talk to people on the street about issues, but I also cover large events such as the Tour de France.”

The graduation ceremony was held at the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester.

Speaking about the day, Amy said: “It was a really good day and it was lovely to see everyone again. It’s so nice to close this chapter in my life on a high.

“I’d like to thank my family and Adam (my financé), as they have been incredibly supportive and I couldn’t have done it without them.”
