Man stabbed in Rochdale

Date published: 28 July 2014

A man is recovering in hospital after being stabbed in Rochdale.

Officers were called to a house on Dunstable, Lower Falinge in Rochdale shortly before 6am on Sunday 27 July 2014 to reports a man had been stabbed.

A 29-year-old man was taken to hospital with stab wounds to his chest and arm. He remains in hospital in a stable condition.

A white Vauxhall Insignia, registration FN12 PYL, was seen to leave the area shortly afterwards.

As part of the investigation a man and a woman were arrested on suspicion of assault. The woman, aged 32, has been bailed pending further enquiries and the man, aged 42, has subsequently been charged with Section 18 assault.

Detective Inspector James Faulkner said: "I would like to give the community some reassurance that we believe this was targeted and it was not a random attack, nevertheless, there will be an increased police presence in the area while officers carry out their enquiries.

"We have made two arrests but we are keen to establish the full circumstances of the attack and in particular the movements of a white Vauxhall Insignia in the hours before and after the incident.

"If anyone was up and about early on Sunday morning I would ask that they think back and get in touch if they remember seeing the vehicle or any suspicious activity in the area."

Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 8470 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
