Carl Henry in heroic rescue at Hollingworth Lake
Date published: 30 July 2014
Two men were rescued from Hollingworth Lake after swimming 80 metres from the shore - as reported by Rochdale Online on Saturday 26 July - in fact, one of the two men, Carl Henry, was literally a lifesaver.
Lisa Crowther, Carl's girlfriend, explains: "Two lads went for a swim whilst Carl stayed at the side with the children. Both lads swam out and one couldn’t make it back and shouted for help.
“Without a thought for his own safety, my boyfriend (Carl Henry) jumped straight in after them. The lad was drowning, his body was lifeless and he nearly died.”
“Carl held the buoy around him and reassured him that the services were on their way to keep him calm.”
Carl said: “It was instinct to go and help the man.
“Once I had reached him, he was in a state of shock and couldn’t speak. We waited over an hour for the emergency services to rescue us.”
Both men were treated for hypothermia at the scene.
