Lee Cropper completes charity challenge

Date published: 11 August 2014

Lee Cropper, from Littleborough, was part of a team of Greater Manchester Firefighters that raised almost £10,000 completing a cycle ride and mountain climb for charity.

The epic challenge involved climbing the three largest mountains in Great Britain – Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Mount Snowdon with the added twist of cycling in between each climb.

Lee said: “It was very, very hard but everyone managed to get through it.”

Money raised will be donated to:

  • The Firefighters Charity
  • S.A.N.D.S.
  • The Christie
  • Annabelle’s Challenge

Lee said: “We are all firefighters so the Firefighters Charity was always going to be one we raised money for.

"We lost our daughter to still birth so have been raising money for S.A.N.D.S.

"I think everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer.

“Annabelle’s Challenge is a charity that supports sufferers with the condition E.D.S and the manager of RRG Toyota in Rochdale, his daughter is the youngest person in the UK to have this disease, has helped us with a support vehicle for the past two years so we wanted to help the charity as a thank you.”

After completing the Blazing Saddles challenge for two consecutive years, the team has decided to take a break next year but are planning a third blazing saddles challenge.

“I think we may look at doing something not next year, but the year after. We have decided to have a break and give the people who often donate a break but will be doing it again soon,” said Lee.

Blazing Saddles Three may involve challenges abroad but as of yet, nothing has been decided.
