Society marks anniversary with cash giveaway to charities in Rochdale

Date published: 15 August 2014

Members of the public in Rochdale are being invited to join in with Yorkshire Building Society’s 150th anniversary celebrations by nominating small charities and good causes in their community to receive a share of £150,000.

Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation has made the donation available – £1,000 for every year the Society has been helping people save for their futures and buy their first homes – as part of its annual Make a Difference campaign.

Staff at the Society’s Milnrow agency are inviting local residents and shoppers to call in to the office on Dale Street and nominate a charity or good cause close to their heart between Monday 18 and Saturday 23 August. All nominated charities will be considered to receive a £100 share of the Charitable Foundation’s anniversary donation. Nominations will also be accepted at the Society’s Littleborough agency, on Hare Hill Road.

Jane Taylor-Davies, National Agency Manager at Yorkshire Building Society, said: “We’re all really excited to get involved in the Society’s 150 year celebrations and to help our agencies be part of a £150,000 giveaway that could help benefit the local community is just brilliant.

“The Make a Difference campaign is the Society’s opportunity to help some of the smaller causes that can often be overlooked for donations but to whom £100 could really have a positive effect. I hope people will take a minute to call into their local agency and fill in a nomination form – we would love to be handing out money to charities and good causes in the next few weeks.”

The £150,000 to be given away by Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation is largely made up of donations the Society receives through its innovative ‘Small Change Big Difference’ scheme. Members of the Society can choose to donate pennies from the interest they receive on their accounts to the Charitable Foundation.
