Local band 5ft Fez to open main stage at Rochdale Feel Good Festival

Date published: 15 August 2014

5Ft Fez won the Feel Good Festival Battle of the Bands competition and will open the main stage at the Festival.

The Rochdale-based three piece, comprising Matt Cummings, Ross Fearns and Joe Leach, impressed the panel of experts thanks to their unique sounds and individuality, straddling indie, mod, punk and rock with deft skill and handiwork.

They will take to the main stage first, in front of an expected audience of thousands, ahead of major stars and acclaimed outfits such as pop chart toppers Scouting For Girls, ska groundbreakers The Selecter, Manchester folk duo Bird To Beast, and electronic crossover types MDNGHT.

Runners up were Illerstate, who placed a close second, France in third, and Ellyssee Mason who finished fourth from responses that numbered in the hundreds.

Debbie Hernon, of Rochdale Feel Good Festival, said: “We were delighted with not just the number of applicants we received, but the incredibly high standard, which goes to show how seriously Rochdale Feel Good Festival is taken as a platform for local acts and artists to be heard.

"We’ve been running the Battle of the Bands competition for several years now, and we are very proud that once again a local band will be performing on our main stage in front of thousands.”

Rochdale Feel Good Festival, now in its seventh year, will take place on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 August in Rochdale town centre.
