Date published: 16 August 2014

Milnrow Band is due to take part in the British Brass Band championships at Birmingham Symphony Hall on Saturday 6 September.

The band's test piece for the championships is Vita Aeterna Variations by Alexander Comitas.

The championships will pit Milnrow against some of the best bands in the land and see them compete against opponents from the North West including Fairey, Fodens and Leyland as well as others from across the UK such as Black Dyke, Brighouse and Rastrick and Grimethrope.

Altogether 17 bands will be competing as part of the championships.

The band recently took part in some contests surrounding Whit Friday in Saddleworth, appearing at six venues and won several local prizes.

According to '4barsrest', Milnrow Band is rated 27th in the world and fourth in the North West.
