REAG clean up

Date published: 18 August 2014

Members of REAG cleaned Drake Street, the back of the Drake Street, Caton Street and other adjoining streets, helped by volunteers from Manchester and Shaw.

Ghulam Rasul Shahzad OBE, Secretary of the REAG, said: “REAG would like to see action on the improvement of the Borough of Rochdale. There is commitment by the residents and they would like to engage with appropriate people.

“REAG would like to have champions in every street who should take responsibility of their own areas and streets.

“REAG members are thankful to the Environment Management of the Rochdale Council for providing them with bags and litter pick.

“Residents, businesses and organisations should be encouraged to plant and look after flowers to improve the environment of the borough.

“Improving the environment and importance of cleanliness should be part of the national curriculum in primary and secondary schools and there should be regular cleaning campaigns organised by the area forums and various organisations.

“Keeping the front and rear of their businesses should be a condition of all planning applications and Rochdale Borough Council should make it as such condition. The papers these businesses use, should bear the name of the business so that they are identified.”
