Multicultural Arts and Media Centre providing work placements

Date published: 21 August 2014

The Multicultural Arts and Media Centre (MAMC) has been providing work placement programmes for young and unemployed people for the past 16 years.

MAMC provide the placements through Job Centre Plus, Council for Voluntary Service, Hopwood Hall College and schools in the area.

Stephen Morley and Toni Hopley, who were referred from Job Centre Plus, started eight weeks work placement at MAMC in May.

Stephen said: “I gained a lot of experience at MAMC in admin, marketing, interview skills, filming and cultural understanding.

“I’m grateful to Mohammed who provided the reference needed, and I now have a full time job at Fresh from the Studio, Littleborough.”

Toni said: “It’s been an excellent experience at MAMC. I have gained confidence and learnt new skills, particularly in graphic design, marketing, organising events and meeting new people.”

“These skills got me through interviews and I am now working as a Fundraiser for Friends of Earth Charity.”

Mohammed Sarwar, CEO at MAMC, said: “I am absolutely delighted that Stephen and Toni have succeeded in finding work and are heading towards the careers of their choice.

“They have gained first class experience working on activities supported by Link4Life and HMRC Clinical Commissioning Group Social Investment Fund.

“MAMC has specialised in arts and media training, accredited courses, festivals and community cohesion events for the past 26 years. We hope to continue to provide these essential services for all communities and hope that funding is available for the next year.”
