REAG clean up

Date published: 26 August 2014

On Saturday 22 August Members of the REAG cleaned Milkstone Road, Tweedale Street, Kent Street, Mere Street, Devon Street, William Street, Suffolk Street, Henry Street, Sussex Street and Ann Street.

They spoke to the directors of Worldwide Cash & Carry, Haji Cash & Carry, Madina Cash & Carry, shops and displayed the posters in their shop windows. This states 'Love Rochdale – Hate Litter' and 'Keep Rochdale Tidy'.

Ghulam Rasul Shahzad OBE, Secretary of the REAG, said: “I spend two hours on my radio programme and always cover improving environment as standing item on the agenda. We live in our houses and keep them clean. The Borough of Rochdale and UK is also our home and the home of our future generations. It is, therefore, very important that we keep our town and UK neat and clean for us and our future generations.

“Keeping the Borough of Rochdale tidy is our collective social responsibility. The residents and businesses should keep the front and rear of our properties/businesses clean and throw our litter and rubbish in the bins provided. With this we can make a great difference in our town. We should be proud of our town and contribute a little time to improve its environment. If we all commit to make it the best flowery town in the world, we can achieve it.

“Improving the environment and the importance of cleanliness should be part of the national curriculum in primary and secondary schools and there should be regular cleaning campaigns organised by the area forums and various organisations.

“Keeping the front and rear of their businesses clean should be a condition of all planning applications and Rochdale Borough Council should make it as such condition. The papers these businesses use should bear the name of the business so that they are identified.”
