Mayor’s Country Fete described as ‘brilliant’

Date published: 21 September 2014

The first ever Mayor’s Charity Country Fete has been described as “brilliant” by Mayor Carol Wardle.

Held today (Sunday 21 September) at Rochdale and District Riding Club, the fete was packed with events and activities for people of all ages.

Competitions took place throughout the day, including a dog show, a pony novelty show and a gymkhana. There was also a pet’s corner and classes for adults and children.

For those not competing, there were plenty of stalls to keep them occupied, including the Star Tree Studio, Barnado’s and Leukaemia and Lymphoma research.

Children were also kept entertained with fairground rides, a penalty shoot out and a number of games.

Mayor Carol Wardle said: “I am very pleased with how today has gone. It has been brilliant and we have had a really good response. I have to thank all of the stallholders and judges who have taken time out of their day to come along.

“I do hope this is something that the town can continue next year.”

Those in attendance also agreed with the Mayor of Rochdale.

Ian Bolton said: “For the first one it has been well attended, there has been plenty going on and the weather has played in their favour. I think everyone will agree that it has been a really good event.”

Emma Cranshaw said: “I have a two-year-old and a twelve-year-old and they have both been entertained and kept occupied so that has been good.”

Elaine Dutton said: “It has been absolutely fantastic. It has been brilliant. There has been a lot to keep the children entertained as well as things for the adults to watch. I do hope it continues because it has been a fantastic day.”

The event was held by the Mayor and her charity committee to help raise money for the Mayor's chosen charities, Rochdale Children’s Moorland House, Springhill Hospice and Heywood Youth Link.
