Littleborough Cricket Club car park to be made pay and display

Date published: 22 September 2014

Littleborough Cricket Club is starting the process to turn their club car park into a pay and display car park in the hopes of generating money to help with its upkeep.

The club has decided to go down this route as they believe the car park has been “hammered” by road users over the years.

Club Manager Alan Troy said: “We have hundreds of non members using the car park and it has just been hammered over the years and really needs looking at. By making it a pay and display car park we can hopefully generate money to help with the up keep.”

The process of turning the car park into a pay and display will begin on Thursday but the club don’t yet know how long it will take.

Alan added: “It is a long, long process which costs thousands of pounds and the process starts on Thursday (25 September). We are not discouraging people from using the car park but we are just asking that they pay to use it.”

This has come as a last resort for the club after approaching various sources previously to help them with the problem.

“We have asked the school and have asked the council in the past for help and we have had small donations but not enough to cover the costs.

“Obviously there are double yellow lines all along the road so people often use the car park and we don’t want them to stop, we just need it looking better and are asking people to help with that by paying,” said Alan.

It is understood that a private company will be helping the club undertake the process.
