Date published: 25 September 2014

MBM Academy of Dance and Fitness in Rochdale played host to break dance competition, Break Mission, on Saturday 20 September.

Break Mission, a collaboration by break dancers Russell David and Justin Lie, saw break dancers from across the UK and abroad travel to Rochdale to take part in the competition.

The competition was free to enter for participants and spectators prvided they brought clothing or food to donate to a local charity or shelter. Break Mission is about ‘giving back’ to the community through break dancing.

Break Mission started in 2012 and has held 10 successful events in the UK, three of which have been held at MBM Academy. Pete and Janine Yarker, Directors of MBM Academy instantly took to Break Mission and its meaning and ever since then have offered their venue for free to support the event.

As well as Rochdale, Break Mission events are also being held in Malaysia, Korea, New Zealand, Hong Kong, New York and Jordan.

Janine Yarker said: “MBM Academy will continue to support Break Mission and look forward to the next event. Our students absolutely love getting involved and it’s an honour to be involved in something so fantastic. It’s nice to be a part of Break Missions vision ‘giving back’.”

MBM Academy of Dance and Fitness was set up to encourage young people and adults to try something new, to have fun, to develop skills and more. As a school, it aims to create a safe, fun and friendly place to encourage more people in Rochdale to get involved and build up a positive community.
