‘Brighten up, be seen’

Date published: 25 September 2014

With evenings getting darker - all road users need to take extra care and look out for others. Bike Friday would like people to continue enjoying the freedom of cycling in Greater Manchester and are encouraging people to ‘Brighten Up – Be Seen’ and cycle safely and with confidence during the autumn and winter months.

Participants in the Bike Friday “led rides” will be wearing a range of bright and reflective cycling styles to show that it is possible to cycle safely with style.

To encourage people to “Brighten up and Be Seen” five lucky participants will receive Love Your Bike.org hi-viz jackets and all participants will have the chance to win a free battery charger and set of rechargeable batteries donated by Manchester Friends of the Earth (co-organisers of Bike Friday).

Catherine Thomson, from Manchester Friends of the Earth said: “Just because winter is on its way we don’t have to put our bikes in the shed. Cycling is a healthy and safe way to travel but during the winter months it is really important to be bright and visible on your bicycle.”

Bike Friday combines a range of cycle rides into the City Centre from various locations as well as working with companies and local authorities in Greater Manchester to promote cycling, improve cycle facilities and to encourage more people to continue cycling to school, work and for leisure all year round.
