Fundraiser raises over £500 for Macmillan

A fundraising event held in aid of Macmillan has raised over £500.

The event, held on Thursday (25 September) at Aphrodite Hair Beauty Relaxation/Adonis Cafe Bar in Littleborough included stalls, raffles and the releasing of balloons in memory of loved ones.

Organiser Alison Morris said: “It was brilliant. We had a really good day and managed to raise over £500. Hopefully that total will keep rising as we still have money coming in.”

Alison and fellow organiser Michele Dearden hold a fundraising event every year and were stuck on who to donate the proceeds to this year.

“It was between Macmillan and the Hospice this year so we just wrote the names on pieces of paper and I got my grandson to choose one and it ended up being Macmillan. That seemed the easiest way to make the decision. Next year our event will be for the Hospice,” said Alison.

Both Alison and Michele are cancer patients and like to raise money to give something back after the treatment they received.

“I have been given the all clear for now so touch wood. I have suffered a few complications due to the surgery I had to have so I still have things ongoing with that but I am still here and that’s all that matters.

“Macmillan isn’t just about helping cancer patients, they help everyone and do a lot. They are just at the end of the phone if someone needs them as well,” said Alison.

Despite the weather letting them down a little bit, Alison was still pleased with the event.

She said: “In the back of my mind I kept thinking that if the weather was better then more people would have come but we are still really pleased with it all. Everyone was great and the local businesses who donated raffle prizes were fantastic. We will do it all again next year for the Hospice.”
