Mark Wright delivers flowers to community volunteer

Date published: 01 October 2014

Former The Only Way is Essex actor and current Strictly Come Dancing contestant Mark Wright paid a visit to Middleton on Monday (29 September) to deliver flowers to Sue Scott, a community volunteer from Langley.

Mark delivered the flowers to Sue in recognition of her work with The Angel Project Community Cafe.

Sue’s daughter Emma said: “She was really overwhelmed by the whole thing and was really surprised. I think it was nice for her to finally get the recognition she deserves and to finally see that the project is known and is being recognised.”

The Angel Project Community Café is based around the five ways to wellbeing and aims to engage local residents in improving their health, wellbeing and social life. The project works with residents who have mental health issues, health related conditions, older people and vulnerable people who wish to benefit from support – whether that be practical, emotional or social.

Emma added: “My mum left her well paid job with Oldham Council to set up the project and everything is run by volunteers at the minute because the money just isn’t there right now.”

Mark called into the café at the heart of Langley estate to surprise Sue, and she had no idea what was going on.

“She was really surprised by it all and was really overwhelmed but she had no idea what was going on at first,” said Emma.

The project has only been running in the area for around five months but has plans to expand.

Emma said: “We have just signed a lease for a building a few doors down which will become our hub and where we will be able to hold training sessions and skills workshops. We also have a number of events planned for the residents that are on going. We have loads planned.”

The project relies on the work of volunteers and from donations from local residents and businesses. Anyone who thinks they can help can contact the project on 0161 6374010 or via Angel.Project@yahoo.co.uk
