Duchess of Gloucester visits Springhill Hospice

Date published: 08 October 2014

The Duchess of Gloucester visited Springhill Hospice this afternoon (Wednesday 8 October) to unveil a plaque commemorating the Hospice’s 25th anniversary.

The Duchess was joined on her visit by fellow dignitaries, members of the board of trustees, the Mayor and Mayoress of Rochdale and staff and patients of the day hospice on what is officially the final day of the 25th year of Springhill Hospice.

After having a tour of the Hospice and speaking to those who use the facilities, the Duchess unveiled a plaque in the reception area.

Upon unveiling the plaque she said: “Congratulations on 25 years of service. I have spoken to many people here who have said how much they love the Hospice. Here is to another successful 25 years.”

Once the plaque was unveiled, the Duchess signed the visitor’s book and accepted flowers from Margaret Geoghegan MBE – the President of Springhill Hospice.

Sarah Ford, Income Services Manger at Springhill Hospice, said: “It has been a great way to celebrate our 25th anniversary. It has been a lovely afternoon.”

The plaque will be moved to the front of the Hospice at a later date.
