Patrick Altimas and friends raise £6,372 for Springhill Hospice

Date published: 19 October 2014

Patrick Altimas was part of a group of 64 people who have raised £6,372 for Springhill Hospice by taking part in Born Survivor.

Patrick recently paid a visit to the hospice to donate over £5,000 to them but received news on Wednesday 15 October that a further £810 had been collected bringing the total to over £6,000.

Born Survivor is a military style obstacle course based on military training experiences and Royal Marine commando training.

Patrick said: “It was like nothing I have experienced before. It originally started with five or six people agreeing to do it and then it just grew and grew and we reached about 64 people all together. Rochdale really pulled together.”

Patrick agreed to do Born Survivor after being approached to complete Tough Mudder by friend Stacey Connelly.

He said: “We were originally looking at doing Tough Mudder but then I was told that Born Survivor was similar and was closer. I thought it would be a good idea because of the training side of things as well.”

Patrick is not new to fundraising and has raised money for the hospice before by taking part in charity boxing events and parachute jumps.

Patrick’s aunt was diagnosed with cancer when she was living in Canada and Patrick wanted to do something to help a local charity.

“She is in remission now and she is doing ok so that’s good. She always talked about how good the hospice was so I decided I would so something to help,” added Patrick.

Springhill Hospice Community Fundraiser, Lillie Winterbottom said: "Paddy came to see me last year, telling me that he and a few friends would be taking part in Born Survivor and raising money for the hospice at the same time. Never in my wildest dreams did I think it would there be nearly 70 of them!

“The team were raising money for a few causes with £5,562 recently being donated to the hospice. It's an amazing achievement for which everyone at the hospice, patients, staff and volunteers alike, are so grateful."
