Crime Prevention Advice/Home Security Advice

Rochdale North areas have been suffering a sudden increase in burglaries.

Don't be a victim - remember to:

Never leave your house insecure

Make your house look occupied when you are out by use of lights and timing switches

Consider installing an alarm, if you have one ensure it is maintained and working

Fit good quality five lever mortise locks to all exterior doors

Fit window locks, especially on ground floor windows

Don't leave your house and car keys near your front door, especially when you go to bed

Consider setting up a Home Watch scheme

Dark Nights

With the clocks going back in autumn thieves are given a wider opportunity to strike.

The darker nights make it easier for burglars to identify if homes have been left empty as lights may have not been left on.

Thieves are less inclined to enter properties that look like someone is in. Opportunist
burglars tend to target houses where it is clear that no one is home.

The clocks go back on Sunday 26 October, but the nights start to get significantly darker during October.
