Rochdale Literature and Ideas Festival: Lucy Spraggan

Date published: 25 October 2014

Former X Factor contestant Lucy Spraggan appeared at the Rochdale Literature and Ideas Festival today (Saturday 25 October) and performed a number of her songs as well as taking part in a question and answer session.

Lucy, who started writing songs at the age of 12, first shot into the public eye when she appeared on The X Factor in 2012. Having to leave the show after falling ill, Lucy achieved two top 40 singles in 2013 and is currently in the process of completing her second album.

Speaking about the Rochdale Literature and Ideas Festival, Lucy said: “I think it is fantastic. I think it is great for people who are creative to get involved with something like this, especially if it is something they have not necessarily done before.”

Lucy performed a 45 minute set to a packed crowd in front of the main stage, including “Tea and Toast,” “Lighthouse” and “Beer Fear.”

After her performance, Lucy sat down with compère Norman Warwick and took part in an interview and question and answer session with the audience.

Lucy was questioned about her time on the X Factor, writing songs and touring.

Speaking about her time on stage at the Festival, Lucy said: “It was good. It’s nice to be at an intimate venue and play where people can get involved and you can see them getting involved. It was nice to play tracks and have people singing along and it was nice to debut some new tracks as well.”

Fans of the singer packed the front of main stage to see Lucy perform.

Jane McLaren said: “It was brilliant. We saw that she was coming to Rochdale and decided to come because we couldn’t get tickets for her show in Manchester. It was better than I expected and it has made me look at coming next year depending on the line up.”

Helen Woolard said: “It was awesome. It was better than I expected and it was nice to be so close to her and to be able to speak to her and interact with her.”
