Simon Danczuk urges Rochdalians to celebrate Lancashire Day in style

Date published: 25 November 2014

Rochdale’s MP Simon Danczuk has called on the Borough to celebrate its roots and mark Lancashire Day in style.

The day of celebration takes place on Thursday 27 November and commemorates the day in 1295 when the first elected representatives from Lancashire were called to Parliament by King Edward I of England to attend what later became known as the Model Parliament.

Simon Danczuk said he was aware of many people across Rochdale who wanted to celebrate their historic ties with Lancashire and that he and his wife Karen would be marking the day by putting on a traditional Lancashire spread at their family deli on the Walk in Rochdale town centre.

“We’ll be doing a special Lancashire stew, putting on Lancashire pies, Eccles cakes, Lancashire cheese and local ales,” he said.

“As a proud Lancastrian I’ll be celebrating this historic event and encouraging everyone in Rochdale to do so. Lancashire has a great history; it was the cradle of the industrial revolution and I know local people feel strongly about their roots. I’ll be tucking into some great Lancashire food and marking the occasion with a few Lancashire ales.”
