Crime Prevention - Thefts From Vehicles

There is a current trend in theft from motor vehicles with the use of an electrical device to block central locking systems.

Some people who parked their vehicles in Manchester City Centre became victims to this type of crime. They left their vehicles none the wiser and returned totally oblivious to the fact they had been victims of theft.

Please take extra care and just check your doors are fully secure before you leave your vehicle unattended as this type of crime appears to be on the increase and could be used here in Rochdale.

Christmas is a busy time of year for everyone, we know, however, that a high percentage of crime is opportunistic, and can be prevented by taking some simple precautions.

See below tips on how to keep your home safe and secure this Christmas.

  • Keep doors and windows locked at all times, even if you are in the property.
  • Keep presents out of sight. Large piles of presents under the tree that are visible through a door or window are tempting to thieves.
  • Don’t leave empty boxes on display outside. Discarded packaging advertises all the new goods you have indoors.
  • Don’t leave car keys and handbags lying around on display.
  • Make it look like someone is at home when you’re going out for the evening. Leave lights on and close the curtains. If you have a burglar alarm, set it.
  • If you’re going on holiday over the festive period, ask a friend, relative or neighbour to keep an eye on your house.
  • You can make it difficult for criminals to operate by not purchasing stolen property. If you are offered a quality product at a bargain price ensure that the source is genuine.
