Todmorden Road, Littleborough closed due to flooding

Date published: 19 December 2014

Todmorden Road, Reddyshore Brow in Littleborough was closed from Stansfield Gale this morning (Friday 19 December) following severe flooding last night (Thursday 18 December).

Fire crews were called just after 9pm to the flooding which was caused by a burst culvert. This resulted in the full closure of Todmorden Road due to the amount of water coming down the road.

Crews from Littleborough, Rochdale and Bury attended and used various equipment to help those in the area.

One house was badly affected by the flooding and fire crews did all that they could to help salvage what they could of the house.

The fire service left the scene at around 4am.

Harriet Jackson who lives in the area tried to make her way home at 11pm last night but couldn’t due to the road being blocked. At that time the road was blocked from Grove Fishing Lodge with traffic being diverted to go up the other way with police only letting residents through.

Harriet said: “From the Fishing Lodge to the estate the road was flooded on both sides but continued down Todmorden Road on one side. All of the neighbours and people that were local were helping with sand bags to try and avoid any houses being flooded.

“The water was gushing down the estate. They had opened all of the drains to try and get the water to flow into them but it didn’t work. As of this morning the water was still running down the estate with blocked drains and traffic backed up.”

Todmorden Road has since been re-opened but is still slightly flooded so drivers are being asked to pass with care.
