Karen Danczuk to step down as a councillor at next election

Date published: 19 January 2015

Kingsway councillor Karen Danczuk has announced that she will stand down as a councillor at the next election.

Councillor Danczuk, who was elected as a councillor in 2011, says she has been considering the decision for some time and wants to pursue other interests as well as achieving a better balance of work and family life.

Commenting on her decision, she said: “Over the last year I’ve been running a business, bringing up two children, taking on board other projects and being a ward councillor. There’s only so many hours in the day and I can no longer dedicate the time required to best meet the needs of my constituents.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time as a councillor and it’s a great honour to represent people locally. I’m especially pleased to have helped get better
street lighting, improved roads and new housing in Kingsway.

“I’d like to thank everyone who voted for me and I’ll be campaigning hard for the next Labour candidate in May.”

Councillor Danczuk was elected in 2011 with a majority of 1,458 votes.
