Carbon Monoxide leak at Castlemere Community Centre caused by missing flue

The carbon monoxide leak at Castlemere Community Centre on Wednesday (28 January) that hospitalised ten people was caused after workmen removed a flue from a boiler which allowed the gas to escape.
Representatives from National Grid arrived on site and turned off the gas and made the property safe. They were called to the community centre mid-afternoon on Wednesday and left the site safe at around 7pm that same day.
Ten people were taken to hospital for treatment following the leak. Six were taken to hospital by paramedics and a further four made their own way to hospital later on.
It is understood that the community centre is now open as usual.
