Cricketer David Schofield dies

Record breaking cricketer David Schofield has died at the age of 65.

Mr Schofield, an all-rounder, died at his home in Wardle on Monday 19 January.

He began his career in 1966 at 16 years old with the now defunct Castleton Moor Cricket Club and went on to be named as the club’s professional ten years later.

In his Castleton Moor career he scored 10,011 runs and took 581 wickets – a club record for an all-rounder.

He then joined Werneth before moving on to Littleborough Cricket Club in the mid-eighties.

Mr Schofield leaves his son Steve and daughter Claire, as well as three grandchildren.

His funeral is on Wednesday 4 February at 2:20pm at Rochdale Crematorium.
