Family want to thank stranger who returned their belongings

Date published: 02 March 2015

Adele McAvoy and her family, who accidently left a mobile phone, their car keys and items of clothing in a busy swimming pool changing room, are looking for the person who returned their items to them to say thank you.

Adele and her family went swimming at Rochdale Baths on Sunday (1 March) afternoon between 12pm and 1pm.

Adele’s husband Danny got changed with their son William and their son’s friend in a cubicle, whilst Adele used a separate cubicle in the family changing room. After swimming for around an hour, the family got changed and left when Danny noticed that William’s shoes, jacket and hooded top were missing from their belongings.

Adele said: “I asked him if he had just left them in the locker whilst they got changed but he said no. We then realised he had left them in the cubicle for all of that time.”

Adele then went to the reception desk and saw the items.

When Danny then made his way to meet Adele and the boys, he realised the car keys and his phone were also missing.

“He asked me if I had the car keys and I said no, you drove here so you must have them. We then realised that they were missing as well but luckily the woman at reception said some keys and a phone had been handed in and thankfully they were ours,” said Adele.

Adele would now like to find the person who made sure their belongings were given to the reception desk so they were safely returned to them.

She added: “We don’t know who returned them but I would just like to say thank you to them really. My husband’s phone alone is worth about £600 bought brand new and then with the car keys as well, it was a lot that could have been taken.

“There was a huge relief when we realised we had got everything back because it was very busy at the time we were there so anything could have happened.”
