Harry Alldritt awarded with a lifetime achievement award

Date published: 03 March 2015

Harry Alldritt has been given a lifetime achievement award from Forever Manchester to recognise the work he has done with them for a number of years.

Harry, from Middleton, has been involved with Forever Manchester for over a decade and has been an active volunteer in his local community for far longer.

Harry said: “There was no hint whatsoever that I was getting this award. It is unbelievable. It was a huge surprise and I am completely overwhelmed by it. I have to thank Forever Manchester though and in particular Gill Green because she does a great job and has helped me with a lot.”

Activities Harry has been responsible for executing include training first aid to local scout groups, hosting activity sessions for older people and working with the local fire service to collect toys at Christmas to replace children’s toys destroyed by fire.

There is now also a new addition to Ward 76 at the Manchester Children’s Hospital thanks to the dedication of Harry and his determination to give something back to the community.

Harry spent over 800 hours over six months putting together a working model railway layout for the children to use to make their stay in hospital a more positive experience. As a result, more than 32,500 young people are now set to benefit from the layout each year.

More recently he has spearheaded a campaign to set up a friends group of a local unmanned train station which again, with his drive and passion has motivated local volunteers to get involved to make the station a brighter and safer place.

Harry lives and breathes his community, his passion is simply meeting new people and helping others. He spends approximately 50 hours a week voluntarily helping his local community.

As well as doing all of this for his community, Harry still goes out of his way to support Forever Manchester. From sitting on grant panels to hosting meetings, to spending many a night stuffing thousands of envelopes with newsletters. He has even helped Forever Manchester to move offices on more than one occasion.
