Date published: 05 March 2015

Rochdale AFC is conducting an internal inquiry after a youth player allegedly posted vile abuse targeted at Liverpool FC captain Steven Gerrard’s three-year-old daughter after Mr Gerrard posted a picture of her online.

The young player, who has not been named, is alleged to have posted the abuse under an Instagram photo of Mr Gerrard and his daughter.

The comment provoked an angry response amongst fans with some saying that the player should be sacked due to the nature of the comments.

The comment has since been removed.

A spokeswoman for Rochdale AFC said: “We are not making any comment at this time.”

Greater Manchester Police have said that they are aware of the incident but are currently not investigating as no formal complaint has been made.

Mr Gerrard could not be reached for comment.
