Middleton Township Committee Meeting as it happened

Date published: 06 March 2015

Thursday 5 March

A minute silence is held in honour of former Councillor Jonathan Burns following his death in January.

The open forum is first.

Parking issues on Morton Street are addressed first. Residents ask councillors to address the problem.

The Highways Department states that any obstruction occurring is a police issue but Highways will bring lines and signs up to standard (where necessary) and the police state that they will look into the issue.

Councillors are asked if they will fix a bell in the cemetery so it can be used. They state that money has been allocated and that the bell will hopefully be fixed soon.

Further issues including litter and road signs in Middleton are also addressed.

The Middleton Town Centre Public Realm is next.

Councillors are asked to approve the allocation of £1.6 million for improvement work for areas into Middleton Town Centre. This includes work on Long Street and Market Place.

Councillors welcome the investment and agree the report.

The Former Scout Hut on Long Street is next.

Councillors are asked to approve the disposal of the land.

Councillors want to look at how viable the site is for other uses, including a community meeting room, and ask to defer the decision until other options are explored.

Meeting ended.
