Inspector Michelle Hughes says: "Priorities this week continue to be around reducing burglaries and ensuring we continue to support victims of domestic violence."

Anti-Social Behaviour

Previously we have discussed a group of youths causing anti-social behaviour in and around the town centre, and how we have been working with partner agencies and using anti-social behaviour legislation to tackle the problem.

This week we attended a case intervention group meeting, where a panel of representatives from local police, Rochdale Borough Council, youth offending service, local housing providers, and other key agencies met to discuss the group and their behaviour. As a result the majority of the group are to be given acceptable behaviour contracts.

Multi agency working in this way has a number of benefits, including increasing the speed of evidence gathering, helping to ensure interventions are tailored to the individuals and reducing breaches by ensuring the necessary support is in place.

When signed, individuals are agreeing that they will not display or act in an antisocial manner in future circumstances they will encourage the young people and their parents and guardian’s to take responsibility for their unacceptable behaviour.

Should the contracts be breached, further action will be taken, which could include prosecution and proceedings for a criminal behaviour order.

Breach of CRASBO

Earlier this Sam O’Neil (07/08/1994) was charged with breach of anti-social behaviour order. He was originally handed the two year order on 27 January 2015 after he was convicted of burglary.

The order given to Sam O’Neil has the following conditions:

1. O’Neil is prohibited from having contact with, in public, whether by being in a group with, talking to or otherwise associating with a particular people within a public place or any place that the public has access to, except when supervised by a member of the Rochdale Probation Service or similar organisation.

2. Entering or attempting to enter the area marked and outlined on the exclusion map save that he may access Cutgate Road, Rochdale, to the junction of Ings Lane to allow access to the Brotherod Estate.

3. Climbing on any property (including the roof) without the owner’s permission or without reasonable cause to do so.

4. Gaining access to any alleyway which is closed by means of alley gates.

We are using these orders to tackle anti-social behaviour when offenders persistently cause harassment and distress for members of the public in Rochdale.

With that being said their effectiveness is very much dependent on you as a community assisting us and giving information, therefore we are appealing for anyone who witnesses O’Neil  breaching the terms of his CRASBO can contact police on the non-emergency number 101 or by calling Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.

This week we have arrested a number of prolific offenders and we will continue to target offenders and promote initiatives to prevent offences taking place.

I would also urge residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious people, vehicles or activity in their neighbourhood.

Many suspects have been arrested and crimes prevented by people acting on their instinct and calling in with information. Do not hesitate to call us and report anything suspicious on 101, if you see a crime in progress always call 999.
