Prima Wind Quintet performed at Rochdale Parish Church yesterday (Saturday 28 March), as part of the lunchtime concerts series.

The group, who are all students at the Royal Northern College of Music, performed a variety of pieces including:

  • Poulenc – Novelette
  • Arnold – Three Shanties
  • Dvorak – String Quartet n. 12 in F Major ‘American’ (arr. wind quintet).

Speaking about the concert, Musical Director Phillip Lowe said: “These concerts give students from the college a platform to perform in public. Sometimes whilst you are at college, you don’t necessarily get that.”

The first lunchtime concert was held in 2007 as a way to raise money to help repair the church organ. Following the success of that, and the completion of repairs to the organ, the church decided to continue with the concerts.

Phillip added: “They usually go down well and we have a steady audience who come to them. Each concert is different with different music played each time.”

Prima Wind Quintet are a newly formed group and have been together for six months. The group met during their time at college.
