The Mayor’s Charity Committee to launch new initiative

Date published: 30 March 2015

The Mayor’s Charity Committee are set to launch a new initiative which asks businesses, schools and colleges across the borough to pledge their support, via a donation to the Mayor’s Charity appeal.

The initiative is an opportunity to demonstrate that together the borough and the community has the strength to acknowledge the bad things that have happened previously but to ensure that we are firmly leaving them in the past.

Lauren Sullivan from the Mayor’s Charity Committee said: “We are promoting that it is now time for us to move on together, and to highlight the positives of this Borough as a place to run a business, to work, to study and to live.

“When the Mayor and Mayoress were sworn into office they were adamant that they would somehow redress people's inaccurate misconceptions of Rochdale and that they would focus their efforts on talking up the Borough by highlighting the extensive array of wonderful things that go on here and the community cohesion and understanding that exists. We have a lot to be proud of in Rochdale and now is the time to shout this message.”

The names of companies, schools and colleges involved will appear on a board – in the form of a scroll – located in the reception of the Town Hall. Their names will be written by a calligrapher so that it looks impressive and in keeping with the grand surroundings.

Simon Danczuk is also backing the initiative and it is hoped the initiative will officially be launched after Easter.

So far 200 businesses have pledged their support.

To be part of the initiative, those who want to get involved are asked to pledge their support through a monetary donation.

Lauren added: “We have already had a fantastic response and are in the process of erecting the board at the Town Hall.”
