Controlled drugs stolen in pharmacy burglary

Date published: 18 April 2015

A number of controlled drugs were stolen during a burglary at Lloyds Pharmacy on Whitworth Road.

Thieves gained entry through the roof between 10.45pm and 11.15pm on 15 April.

Once inside they stole numerous packets of medication, including diazepam, amitriptyline, dihydrocodine, nitrazepam, lorazepan, pregabalin, codine and clonazepam.

Police are now appealing to anyone who has information about the break-in to come forward and are also urging members of the public to be vigilant.

Detective Sergeant Kirsten Buggy said: "The offenders have stolen a quantity of controlled drugs which, in the wrong hands, could cause serious injury or harm.

"These are drugs that should only be prescribed by a doctor and no member of the public should ever consume them without the direction and prescription of a medical expert, so it is vital we recover them as soon as possible.

"I would urge anyone who is offered these drugs to refuse them and contact police immediately so we can apprehend the offenders and take these dangerous drugs off the streets.

"If anyone wishes to report anonymously anything they may know about the burglary then please do so by calling Crimestoppers."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
