New flower beds for Springfield Park

Date published: 24 April 2015

The herbaceous borders and the raised flowerbeds at the rear of the tennis courts at Springfield Park are being tidied up with weeds, dead plants and old roses cleared out and yew trees and low maintenance evergreen shrubs being planted.

The work is being carried out by a group of disabled people managed by Dene Marland of Groundwork and his team.

Friends of Springfield Park have donated £710 for new plants and Rochdale Council Environmental Management has matched this sum.

A spokesperson for the Friends of Springfield Park said: "This is a brilliant scheme as it helps to reintroduce people into the working community, aids their self-confidence and makes the park look better.

"If you’re passing the park on a Thursday afternoon, call in and say thank you for the wonderful work these folk are carrying out – they really would appreciate it."
