Littleborough Station reading corner

Date published: 25 April 2015

In honour of World Book Night, Northern Rail created a pop up cosy reading corner so customers at Littleborough could enjoy a quiet and comfortable read before boarding their train.

The space included a high back comfortable chair, traditional rug, tiffany lamp and coffee table to recreate the same peaceful area where one might like to put their feet up and bury their head in a good book.

World Book Night is an annual event on 23 April and is a celebration of reading, with passionate volunteers who have a love of reading, handing out books to encourage others who don’t read regularly to do so.

Northern also left behind free bookmarks and copies of the highly rated books on the World Book Night list, including ‘Water for Elephants’ by Sarah Gruen, ‘Dan Man Talking’ by Roddy Doyle and ‘When God was a Rabbit’ by Sarah Winman, for customers to enjoy.

Alex Hynes, Managing Director of Northern, comments: “We know that thousands of our customers use their time on board our trains to catch up on a good book and for the past several years we have partnered with World Book Night with volunteers handing out books at stations and on our trains across the network. This year we wanted to bring something a little bit different to catch customers’ attention and encourage them to read and our pop up reading corner has done just that.”
