Over 300 walkers came together to take part in the Hospice to Hospice walk (Sunday 26 April), making it the biggest Hospice walk yet.

Setting off at 10:30am from Springhill Hospice, the 300 plus walkers made their way to Dr Kershaw’s Hospice in Oldham, before heading back on the 7.35 mile walk back to Rochdale.

The walkers took 14,500 steps for the Hospice.

Margaret Schofield, who took part in her first Hospice to Hospice walk, said: “My brother recently died from cancer so I was inspired by him really. We often go walking on a Sunday anyway so we thought it would be good to do this and do it for charity.”

Joyce Keen, who joined Margaret on the walk, said: “I have been inspired by my friend. She is doing a 26 mile marathon and I thought if she can do that, then I can do this.”

Carol Mallinson said: “My dad Eric Ashworth died at the Hospice so we decided to do it in his memory and support the Hospice as well.”

Organisers are hoping to raise £8,200 from the event – that is the amount of money it costs to keep the Hospice open for one day.
