Two men sentenced for sexual offences against teens

Date published: 28 April 2015

Amjid Khan and Gul Zaman have been sentenced for sexual offences against two teenagers.

Khan, aged 38 (11/06/1976), of Cloverhall Crescent, Rochdale was found guilty of three counts of rape, three counts of sexual assaults and an exposure.

He was jailed for 14 years at Minshull Street Crown Court.

Zaman, (06/07/1972), of The Normans, Slough was found guilty of two counts of sexual assault and jailed for two years nine months on 27 February 2015.

In July 2012, Zaman was introduced to one of the victims, an 18-year-old woman, and befriended her. He supplied her with alcohol and drugs before he was introduced to one of her friends, a 16-year-old boy.

On a number of occasions, Zaman, or 'Ali' as he was known to his victims, picked them up in his car and drove around the Rochdale area, supplying both with alcohol and cigarettes.

He often took them to his home at the time on Cloverhall Cresent and offered to pay them both for sex, which they refused.

During the summer of 2012, Zaman sexually assaulted the woman at his house.

The victims were also taken to another address in Rochdale, known as the 'party flat' where they were befriended by Amjid Khan and were given drugs and alcohol. Here Khan raped the boy twice.

The woman was also raped and sexually assaulted by Khan at other addresses in Rochdale.

After being assaulted by Khan at a hotel, the victim confided to a college teacher and the police were contacted.

These offences all occurred over a period of three months. The two young victims were befriended by Khan and Zaman and manipulated while at a vulnerable time of their lives.

An investigation was launched and both Khan and Zaman were arrested.

Detective Sergeant Laura Orton said: "When both Khan and Zulman were originally introduced to their victims, they purposefully supplied them with alcohol and drugs.

"But for the legalities around the fact they were both over 16, this would have been a case of Child Sexual Exploitation.

"Both were extremely vulnerable and the men took advantage of this, pretending to be kind.

"The teenagers believed that these men were their only support, as they gradually became more dependent on them.

"However, all along, the men had only one thing in mind and that was to abuse them for their own sexual gratification.

"Khan and Zaman are sexual predators. They were both living double lives, throwing their wives, children and faith to one side while exploiting these teenagers for their own pleasure.

"Thankfully they are both now where they belong, in prison.

"I would like to commend the bravery of both victims for helping us with this case.

"Without their support, we would not have been able to prosecute Khan or Zaman and put them behind bars.

"I hope this sends out a strong message to anyone who is suffering at the hands of such people that we will take action and ensure the offenders are brought to justice."
