Mental Health Awareness Week marked in Rochdale

Date published: 17 May 2015

To mark Mental Health Awareness Week, which ran from 11-17 May, an event was held at Number One Riverside on Saturday (16 May) to engage with local people.

People were invited to share their views about mental health and well-being and were invited to find out more about the borough’s mental health services, regardless of whether they have been affected by mental ill health or not.

Dianne David, Assistant Director at Adult Care, said: “It has been an enjoyable event. We have had up to 40 people come along and get involved and we are really pleased with how it has all gone.”

Those in attendance were given the opportunity to feedback on the CCG and council’s joint mental health and wellbeing strategy. The aim of the strategy is to commission services, which help the population maintain mental well-being and support people who are mentally unwell.

The CCG and council strategy has been developed with feedback from members of the public. The organisations were today asking for views about how the strategy can be put into practice.

Dianne added: “It is about getting people involved and getting their views on how we can take this strategy forward.”

Local groups and organisations were also in attendance to offer help and advice to those who wanted it.

Mehek Asghar, from Living Well, said: “We often do events like this because we think it is a good way to promote our services and offer help and advice to people. It has been good and I am glad that we got involved. These events are also helpful for the people who come to them.”

Panit Chouhan, from Pennine Care, said: “It has been really good to be involved. It has gone really well.”
