International Day Against Homophobia, Biophobia and Transphobia marked in Middleton

Date published: 17 May 2015

The International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia was marked in Middleton on Saturday (16 May) as members of the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) Foundation were joined by the Police, Rochdale and District MIND, RBUF, Making Space and a number of other organisations to offer help, information and advice to those who wanted it.

Adrian Palmer, from the LGBT Foundation, said: “It is really about raising awareness and raising the profile to people. There may be people out there who need help and advice but aren’t quite sure who to go to or where to go to get that help from.”

The group were located in Middleton Gardens from 10am to 2pm.

Adrian added: “We have had a number of people come over to us and have a chat and gather some information so it hasn’t been a bad morning.

“We wanted to come to Middleton to try somewhere different. Last year we were on The Butts in Rochdale Town Centre so it has been nice to come to a new area.”

Adrian is now hoping to work with Rochdale Council to run similar events, more often.

He said: “Hopefully we can work with the council and find a place where we can start running things like this a little more often so people have access to the information on a more frequent basis.”
