Rochdale Council to benefit from latest video survey vehicle

Date published: 18 May 2015

Rochdale Council will be one of the first customers to benefit from a new specification survey solution.

The YAV02 has been specifically designed to operate in often challenging environments to capture geographically accurate asset inventory at normal traffic speeds – reducing data collection costs and minimising the impact of surveying operations on other road users.

Launched by Yotta, an asset management technology company, the YAV02 has the highest specification with a state of the art positioning system and multiple, high resolutions cameras; all driven by an on-board, integrated power system.

By using the new video survey vehicle, Rochdale Council will be able to capture video survey of 130 kilometres of roads, from which assets such as pedestrian guard rails, safety fences and road markings will be extracted.

The data will then be used in the Council’s visualised asset management platform – also supplied by Yotta. By using this software, the council will be able to improve decision making and inform Whole Government Accounting reports.

Mark Widdup, Director of Economy and Environment at Rochdale Council, said: “We periodically update our highways data using video surveys and the YAV02 will allow us to capture higher quality data more quickly and accurately.

“Using this latest technology to capture the conditions of our roads means our officers and the township committees can make improved decisions when planning highways maintenance and schemes.”
