Rachel Kelly looking for help to win singing competition

Date published: 19 May 2015

Rochdale singer Rachel Kelly is hoping to make her dreams of topping the charts come true by winning a singing competition that would gain her a recording contract worth £100,000.

Rachel, 27, who has been singing from the age of four, entered the Brand New Artist Christmas 2015 competition after seeing the details online.

Speaking to Rochdale Online, she said: “Singing is something I have always wanted to do and when I saw the competition I thought I would get involved and at least give it a go.”

Rachel is currently through to the semi-finals of the competition, which has narrowed 100 singers down to 50. If Rachel can stay in the top 25 singers, she will be given the opportunity to be part of a compilation album.

She said: “If I can stay in the top 25 singers I can be on a compilation album which will have an original song on and then that would be sent out to companies. If I wasn’t to win but got to do that, then I would still be happy. I am currently 18th out of 25 so if I can stay there then that will be good.”

Having previously been part of a duo, Rachel stepped out as a solo artist in January and has been performing in and around Rochdale since.

If she were to win the competition, Rachel would be given a recording contract with Negart records, promotion, a tour and a single released with the aim being to top the charts during Christmas 2015.

Rachel added: “This is the first time where I have really done it on my own so if I did win, it would be brilliant.

"I have been working really hard at this and this is what I see myself doing in the future.”
