Barbara Grindrod raising money for RSPCA animal centre
Date published: 25 May 2015
Rochdale RSPCA volunteer Barbara Grindrod, 61, is set to raise money for the RSPCA animal centre by completing a 23-mile canal walk.
Barbara will be walking along the canal from Manchester (near Piccadilly) to Todmorden on Thursday 26 June to raise money for industrial washing machines for the animal centre.
Shirley Mellor, shops area coordinator for RSPCA Rochdale, said: “When one of our washing machines broke, Barbara started taking the animal bedding home and washed and dried it for us before bringing it back and taking another load.
“Then disaster struck and our second washing machine broke. Barbara, who works full time, started taking even more washing home to help us out.
“This is when she came up with the idea of doing a sponsored walk to raise money to replace our dilapidated machines, which cost around £1,000 to buy from new.”
Barbara has been volunteering at the animal centre on Redcross Street for around four years and has even adopted two cats from the centre.
