Springhill's Traditional Country Fete

Date published: 27 May 2015

Springhill Hospice's Fundraising team are gearing up for another successful summer fair, this year's event having a familiar ring to it. Sunday 7 June sees Rochdale Riding Club on Roch Valley Way, transformed into a family fun day to remember in the form of Springhill's Traditional Country Fete.

Following the massive success of last year's Rochdale Country Fete, an event organised by last years Mayor, Councillor Carol Wardle’s Charity Committee, Springhill's Fundraiser, Melanie Caffrey decided to ask Councillor Carol Wardle if the Hospice could take the event on.

"I brought my own family to Rochdale Country Fete and had an amazing time, there was something for everyone, the day had such a wonderfully traditional feel about it, back to the good old days. When it came to putting together our events for the coming year, I jumped at the chance of replicating this great day out," said Melanie Caffrey, Springhill's event co-ordinator.

Melanie added: "We were delighted and honoured when Cllr Wardle trusted us with carrying on the event this year, enabling us to raise more funds for Springhill Hospice. With costs of £8,200 a day to keep the doors of our hospice open and serving the community free of charge, events like this are a boon, enabling us to provide an amazing family day out in return for the public's generosity".

Cllr Carol Wardle, former Mayor of Rochdale, was more than happy to hand over the reins to the Hospice she said: "I'm delighted that the legacy of the Summer Fete will continue on with Springhill Hospice. I hope it is as successful for the Hospice as it was for the Mayor's charities last year."

Roch Valley Radio will be comparing the day and MP Simon Danczuk and wife Karen opening the proceedings along with the new Mayor of Rochdale Cllr Surinder Biant.

The fair includes everything from donkey rides, dog agility trials, dog show when you can enter your four legged friend, home bake and preserve competition, traditional fairground rides, Animal Quackers, Hawk & Owl display, free circus workshop, stalls, games, face painting and lots of open space to park and play, Rochdale's Riding Club will be transformed again.

Event: 10.00am - 4.00pm, Sunday 7 June. Rochdale Riding Club, Rochdale Valley Way Rochdale OL11 4QH.

£1 suggested entry donation.
