The recycling bins are coming

Date published: 27 May 2015

Over 4,000 recycling bins have been ordered by residents since 8 April, as part of a recycling campaign, with hundreds of bins already delivered to households across the borough.

A team of 18 locally-recruited staff have been engaging residents to recycle the right thing in the right bin and to order any recycling bins they do not have. The campaign aims to increase the number of light green recycling bins (mixed recycling) and blue recycling bins (paper and card recycling) in the borough. Any bins ordered on the door step will be delivered within 21 working days.

Households currently on a food and garden waste collection are also being offered free compostable liners as an incentive to recycle more food waste in their brown bins.

Councillor Jacqui Beswick, Cabinet Member for Environment said: “These extra recycling bins will make a significant contribution to the amount of waste the borough can recycle. Once this campaign finishes in June, we anticipate that around 8,000 recycling bins will have been ordered.”

“It currently costs Rochdale Borough Council £10 every time a general waste bin (dark green bin) is emptied and costs are increasing each year. This campaign is part of a thorough review of the current waste and recycling service we deliver; with a view to significantly improve recycling performance and reduce the cost of disposal.”

If you missed the recycling promoters when they called at your home, they will have pushed a recycling bin order form through your door. Please complete it and return it using the freepost address to get your new bins.
