Meet the author – best-seller Anna Jacobs to visit hometown library

Date published: 30 June 2015

Best-selling author Anna Jacobs will be visiting the library close to where she grew up later this month to talk about her writing, answer questions and sign copies of her latest book.

Anna was born and brought up in Spotland, Rochdale, before emigrating to Australia in the early 1970s. Her latest book, A Time to Remember, is her 70th novel in a writing career stretching back more than 20 years.

The visit is part of Anna’s ‘A Time to Remember: The 70th Novel Anniversary Tour’.

Councillor Daalat Ali, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods and Community, said: “We’re so pleased that Anna is returning to her home town – this is a fantastic opportunity to hear from a very successful author.

"Anna’s books have always been incredibly popular with our customers and I’m sure tickets will be booked up very quickly.”

A Time to Remember, published earlier this year, is the first book in a heart-warming new Lancashire-based series, set at the end of World War Two.

Speaking about the book, Anna said: “My mother and I lived with her parents in Rochdale for most of the war years, so my beloved granddad was like a father to me. He taught me to read and let me pinch pea pods from his allotment.

“I was delighted to write a new series set just after World War Two. My editor was sure it was a miserable time of hardship and austerity, and I convinced her it wasn’t. I remember bits and pieces about the war years and just after. People didn’t seem miserable to me; they were too happy to have the war over. But to check my facts, I not only read people’s memoirs, I asked my aunt, who was in the Wrens during the latter part of the war.

“I’m really looking forward to visiting Spotland Library, talking about the book and answering any questions. I’d love to speak to anyone who is interested in taking up writing.”

The free event takes place at Spotland Library on Wednesday 15 July at 2pm. Tickets are available from the library or by calling 01706 648505.
