Rotary Club of Rochdale East donate £1,600 to Disaster Aid UK & Ireland

Date published: 01 July 2015

The Rotary Club of Rochdale East has donated £1,600 to Disaster Aid UK & Ireland.

Disaster Aid UK & Ireland, along with its partners in Disaster Aid International provides shelter, water filters and other aid products to help the survivors of natural and manmade disasters re-establish their lives.

Each Disaster Aid partner is sponsored by one or more Rotary Clubs in the UK, Australia, USA and Malaysia which makes Disaster Aid International a world-wide project.

Each disaster is unique and relief aid must therefore be both appropriate and acceptable to the needs of the survivors.

Disaster Aid use their own trained Disaster Aid Response Team (DART) to ensure the correct deployment and longevity of the aid they provide.

Typically, the team leader goes ahead alone to assess the situation and liaise with other response teams and Rotary Clubs in the area.

A report advising the form and quantity of aid required is then submitted and if agreed, a team of trained DART volunteers is assembled to be in place when the aid arrives. The DART volunteers give their own time to bring the aid to where it is needed.
